KILLYBEGS FISHERY HARBOUR DEVELOPMENT
The development is situated to the South West of the existing harbour and included construction of Berthing Quays, Dredging and Reclamation, Access Roads, Harbour Offices, Cargo Sheds, Boat Repair Shed, Fish Container Wash Building.
The Berthing Quays consist of a 450 metre long berth to cater for vessels up to 200 metres in length and a draft of 12 metres at low water. The quay itself consists of a combi tubular pile/sheet pile wall. The tubular piles are 1220mm diameter 25m long and are socketed up to 5 meters into rock. The infill piles are Larsen LX32 Grade 55 approximately 20 meters long. Extensive dredging work was required to obtain the required depths along the quay. The majority of the dredged material, approximately 316,000m3, was suitable for fill material and was used to form a reclaimed area landward of the quay for the harbour infrastructure.
The quay wall is anchored by a sheet piled wall consisting of Larsen LX20 sheet piles with 100mm diameter tie-rods approximately 34M long. The fendering system consists of precast concrete facing units.
A 36-metre diameter roundabout was constructed on the existing highway network to accommodate access to and from the new development. The new harbour area is serviced by 65,000m2 of asphalt road surface and 19,000m2 of reinforced concrete pavement with associated kerbing, sewers, ducts, watermains, lighting, security fencing and landscaping.
The Harbour Administration Offices have a floor plan area of approximately 1100m2. The Boat Repair Shed has a floor plan area of approximately 300m2 with contractor designed steel framed sliding doors. The Fish Container Wash Facility has a floor plan area of approximately 260m2. The Cargo Sheds have a floor plan area of approximately 540m2.
The Mechanical and Electrical works for all the buildings were also installed under the Contract.
